The town has about two three Universities. These are Mt Kenya University, Gresta University and Jomo Kenyatta University.
Also the are more than ten colleges which offers same courses offered by the universities. These are Hemland College, Thika College of Banking, T.I.B.S College, Excel Institute etc.
